Gesture control uses WiFi doppler shift article tells that researchers at University of Washington have built a WiFi-based gesture control system. The system uses doppler shift in Wifi signal combined with Software-Define Radio (SDR) to detect humans moving near the devices. The researchers see WiSee as a novel interaction interface that leverages ongoing wireless transmissions in the environment (e.g., WiFi) to enable whole-home sensing and recognition of human gestures. WiSee claims to be the first wireless system that can identify gestures in line-of-sight, non-line-of-sight, and through-the-wall scenarios. It may be possible to build the technique into future WiFi devices as requries no change to current standards.
