IEEE has an interesting article Bitcoin Gets Its Own TV Network that tells that in September 2014, if all goes according to plan, the Bitcoin blockchain will take to the radio waves in Finland. The project is called Kryptoradio. Koodilehto and FIMKrypto have secured the rights to transmit updates to the Bitcoin blockchain across digital terrestrial television in Finland (Digita DVB-T).
The system provides only one way communications. There are many scenarios where a one-way connection could still be useful: there applications (like parking meter) that need an easy way to know whether a payment is made. Receiving bitcoins for payment can be achieved without any additional transaction mediators or Internet service providers.
Joel Lehtonen from Koodilehto is talked about their new upcoming experiment in Assembly Summer 2014 ARTtech seminar. There is a video of presentation in YouTube.
