Nowadays you can make music on on your browser – even if you can’t really play real instruments. I have earlier written about Patatap, and here are some new finding on this field:
ACID MACHINE BETA is a in-browser tool (uses HTML5 “magic”) that emulates Roland’s TB-303 bass synthesizer with built-in sequencer. It brings the essence of building a bass, lead and drum sequence to you without the need to install any additional software! (works well on Firefox and Chrome) It allows you to easily make your own ACID house music as the well-known “acid” sound is typically produced by playing a repeating note pattern on the TB-303 (like in this classic track).
According to Make acid house in your browser with Acid Machine article Acid Machine is described by developers Errozero as a “work in progress”, but it’s already working better than a faulty TB-303 found on eBay. As well as featuring two of the famous bass synthesisers, Acid Machine also features a drum machine. Acid Machine is making the dream of writing acid house tracks in the office a reality. Play with it for few minutes and you have some interesting sounding results!
Want some more drum machines? Emulate four classic drum machines in your browser article tells about HTML 5 Drum Machine Emulator that that can emulate five different kits: Roland’s iconic TR-808 and TR-909, the Linndrum, Elektron’s Machinedrum and an acoustic drum kit. You can create multiple 16-step patterns, manipulate the pitch and volume of each individual drum sample and even save patterns for the next time you visit the page. Once you’ve laid down your beat, you can even export the whole thing as a WAV file.
Or do you want to try to play with hip hop samples? Turn your computer keyboard into an MPC and recreate hip hop beats from Dilla, Kanye and 9th Wonder with interactive hip hop sampler Sample Stitch. Sample Stitch lets you reinterpret, record and even share your creations to Facebook and Twitter.

15 Mistakes That Can RUIN Your Studio Recording Sessions

When double tracking guitars, there is sometimes a good reason to NOT do the identical part. This is to create interest and variance in the stereo field. However, these elements are usually crafted with intention, not just randomly thrown in. Although the accidental mistake in a double-track can sometimes result in some very cool effects, the skill of accurately recreating your playing is one that is pretty much required as a modern day rock guitarist looking to record.

Kansas guitarist Rich Williams said that “there’s no money in making records anymore”, adding that in order to make an album nowadays, “you have to really want it.”
Many musicians have been claiming that the music industry’s inner mechanisms are yet to successfully adapt to massive new developments such as streaming and the ever-increasing importance of social media, suggesting that the current business model can be unfair for the artist. Speaking to Radio Artifact in a recent interview, Kansas guitarist Rich Williams shared a similar sentiment, when he said that records are a good vehicle for scratching that creative itch and staying connected with the fans, but won’t earn much money in the process

VIDEO SYNOPSIS:
—————————————————————–
Hey!
In this video, I’m going to teach you two methods for making authentic 8-bit chiptune music, like that produced by the NES, GameBoy, and Commodore 64 sound chip, entirely for free.
I’m also going to give you some compositional tips to make your 8-bit music even better.
8-bit music has made a significant resurgence in the past decade with many high-profile indie games utilizing it as their main sound palette. Apart from games, there’s a thriving chiptune community that enjoys making this kind of music just for fun.
So let’s talk about how you can do that, too.
So the first method for making 8-bit music is to use a free VST instrument inside of your digital audio workstation. I’m using Reaper for my DAW and this NES VST is the best one I’ve found on the web.
Now if you’re wanting to make just general 8-bit chiptune, you’re not looking to emulate a particular console or sound chip, you can just pluck away and use this sound palette however you want.
But, in my experience, it’s more fun to limit yourself to try to actually create something that could have been played on the NES or GameBoy or Commodore 64 or whatever.
In this case, you’ll want to do a little bit of research on the sound chip you’re trying to emulate because there are differences.
For example, the NES has five sound channels. Two square wave channels, a triangle wave channel, a noise generator channel, and a DPCM sample channel, which could play very, very low-quality samples, like the iconic bongo sound from Super Mario Bros 3.
The Gameboy had a different setup, as well as the Commodore 64.
Now we don’t have access to the original software composers in the NES era used, but a tracker is about as close as we can get to replicating it.
A tracker is a free piece of software that emulates how retro chip music was composed… GEAR AND RESOURCES

5 underrated DAWs that aren’t Logic, Ableton or Pro Tools, and why you should consider switching
https://www.musicradar.com/news/five-underrated-daws-and-why-you-should-consider-switching?fbclid=IwAR2xbeHetgbX7-9le4xRdzWcHuQr_JbiyucOhXnU7I4AsLNGWSYgarUcO-s
If you’ve been using the same DAW for years, now might be the time to consider these low-cost, feature-packed alternatives
Ardour (Mac, Windows and Linux) is an open source DAW that handles all the main functions you expect from a sequencer – recording, mixing, editing and export – and is aimed at sound designers, composers, film score creators and, ok, all music producers.
You can download the demo version (which, incidentally, didn’t work on our Silicon Mac) or subscribe for as little as a dollar a month to get total access. Seems like a good deal.
Ardour is available as a demo, or pay $1, $4, $10, or $50 per month for a constantly updated version, or $45 for the current v 7.5 version to the next point update.
Reaper is one of those DAWs that people rave about because it’s cheap and does everything you need it to, but still manages avoid too much limelight, giving it a certain ‘if you know, you know’ appeal.
A small business license for Reaper is $60 and if you make more than $20k a year from your music you pay $225, which seems very fair. Reaper is available in both PC, Mac and Linux.
We’ve long been fans of Bitwig Studio (Mac, PC) here at MusicRadar but the software has also been in the shadow of other DAWs, particularly the fellow Berlin-based Ableton Live, from which it took some cues on its first release.
If you want something a little different – and probably the best ‘second DAW’ you can buy – then Korg Gadget (Mac, iOS or run is as a Mac/PC plugin), is one of the most user-friendly and inspirational tools out there.
Gadget is free for the Mac LE version, $199 as the Mac/PC plugin, $299 for the Mac DAW and $40 for the iOS app.
Finally, Acoustica Mixcraft 10 is a Windows-only DAW which has been also been doing the rounds for a while, but has developed into a one of the best music apps out there in terms of features v price.
Best of all it costs just $79 for the entry-level Mixcraft 10 Recording Studio and just $149 for the full-fat Mixcraft 10 Pro Studio. Best bargain DAW?
