Telecommunication and networking has been and will be one of the core technologies in helping the evolution of mankind and technology. Here is a quick view to the history of the modern electronics based communications technologies with help of few history articles.
“The modern telegraph was invented in 1835 and taken to market a few years later. Soon after that, we were sending written messages encoded and typed on what we called a teletype machine, or teletypewriter if you will.” The history of teletype is long, but nowadays it has become pretty obsolete technology. The Teletype and typewriter evolved into today’s keyboard.
Processors and memory have changed radically over the past 70 years, but the variability of those areas doesn’t hold a candle to communications technology. A plethora of communication options have emerged over the last seven decades. Here is a short article to highlight some of the major changes in wired and wireless communication.
A Quick Stroll Through 70 Years of Communications
One of the most important modern communications technology is Ethernet. Ethernet cables are used to connect everything with an Internet connection today. Even wireless devices like tablets and smartphones have to connect to other devices like routers that are themselves run off ethernet. While the world wide web did not start booming until the late 90s, ethernet’s origins can be traced back to the 1970s.

It would be heedless to say that we have not come a long way as far as mobile technology is concerned. New mobile generations have appeared about every ten years since the first move from 1981 analog (1G) to digital (2G) transmission in 1992. This was followed, in 2001, by 3G multi-media support, spread spectrum transmission and, at least, 200 kbit/s peak bit rate, in 2011/2012 to be followed by “real” 4G. At the moment were are in the phase were operators are building 5G networks and people have started buying 5G phones.
“Do you know that the first ever smart phone was released in November 1999 by NTT DoCoMo in Japan?”
