The difference between the two signals is only the 180 degree
phase difference when they are sent to the line. on the receiving
end the input stage only amplifies the difference of the signals
on those two lines. This ingenous arranagment gives you a huge
benefit in improved system noise immunity, because the external
noise gets coupled to both of the signal wires practically
same emount, but because the input only amplifies the difference
of the signal wires, only the sound gets amplified, not the
interference which is exactly same on both wires.
