CD makers try to add all kinds of protection to stop people 
from easily ripping the muc from CDs. Those protections 
make that some PC's can't rip those CDs, but some PCs can 
(your CD drive breand and operation system can have great 
effect on that).

You can always rip any CD through analogue way:  
Take a normal external CD-player or CD-ROm that plays the disk, 
and connect the audio out to sound card line input where 
you record the audio. Works with all "protected" CDs that play 
on normal CD players. Also the digital S/PDIF connection 
from CD player to soundcard with digital input should work 
in most cases.
