What country you are talking about ?

In many European countries the normal mains sockets (grounded SCHUKO outlets)
are rared for 16A and fured for 10A or 16A (for Finland, Sweden, Germany,
Norway etc. and other). Some other countries might have somewhat different
sockets and ratings (usually 10A for grounded, 10A or 6A for ungrounded).
Small flat ungrounded "Euro" sockets are rated for 2.5A.
The small lighting sockets on the roof are rated for 6A max.
UK main sockets are fused max. 13 A in the socket iself.

In USA the mains sockets to my knowledge is normally rated and fured for
15A or 20A.
