1. Yes, your speaker wires is too small, you should have at leat 1 square millimetre of area for each wire.

2. But the 'crackily sound is not necessary from the wire, it's from a bad contact in the signal path somewhere between the pickup and the speaker :). The most common places are the volume potentiometer or any of the connectors along the path. If there is 'crackling sound' when you turn the volume up or down, this is the spot. If not, continue the search....

Those vinyl lp's can be tricky. Still I wonder what proper speaker wire is appropriate.

speaker fallout

I recently had a Technics SA 6000x quad serviced and cleaned. Today, I receved my speakers for them -- polk 7b's. My problem is probably not unique. Everything sounded great the first few hours. Then I notice when I was playing an lp that my left speaker was falling out and going crackily. This does not happen when there is more sound or volume going to it. My speaker wires are incredibly small -- 4 to 5 strands of copper I think. Could the speaker wire be my problem? I am waiting for larger speaker wire to come in mail. I only have two speakers and have them on the two channel switch. The sound overall has seemed to degrade since I hooked it up too.
