Multi core microprocessors

How about the multi core microprocessor technology

Sony Playstation3 and possbily some workstations from IBM are going to use CELL processor hat has many processor cores in one IC.

Niagara has eight processing engines--called cores--each able to simultaneously execute four instruction sequences called threads.

Intel and AMD are pshign dual core processors for PCs.

Maybe this has something to work to a seminar..

Multiprocessor

Intel's newest Xeon, code-named Paxville, is a dual-core, two-thread design, but successors coming in the second half of 2006 will drop the multithreading ability. IBM's Power4 processor in 2001 was the first dual-core server chip, and the Power5 successor introduced last year added two threads to the feature list. The next Itanium--code-named Montecito but delayed until mid-2006--brings a dual-core design and two threads per core. And AMD's Opteron is a dual-core design that can handle only one thread per core.

Sun has a lot riding on its multicore, multithread initiative, called chip multithreading and sometimes throughput computing

Multicore is still hot topic. The number of cores in PCs and other devices is increasing all the time.
The problem now or soon is how to use the power of those multi core processors well.
Most normal programs are written just for one processor in mind, and runnign such software
with many cores does not speed up anything.
So a good topic would be how to use the multicore technology efficiently.
In which areas many cores work well and where they do not help.
How to write the software so that it will run well on multicore (parallel processing) enviroment.
There are definately challenges on the multicore field to be solved.
Especially how to program them in such way that the programs will use the power of parallel
processing well but will not fail in parallel processing enviroment (it will create new challenges).
Can existing programming languages and operating systems do the things well on multiprocessor systems?
If not then can they be "tweaked" to work better?
Or do we need completely new operating systems and programming languages to solve this problem?

Think something round this. There are many things where there are not yet ready answers which work best.
