sound cards and memory

Postby luke white on Sat Oct 24, 2009 7:36 pm

Hi guys,I have a friend who is having problems with his computer,he was trying to play a certain game and was only getting 15 frame rates per second ,not enough to play a game properly,so I suggested uprating his graphics card to a 4870 1gb which is quite a powerful graphics card, any way upon installng this there was no improvement what so ever, tried all the different resoloutions to see if this would make any difference, none what so ever,so i thought there is a bottle neck somewhere, there was no sound card installed and was using onboard sound ,his motherboard is quite old,so installed my razer barracuda sound card with memory ,and WOW now I was getting 60 frame rates per second ,a massive improvement,so i have found why the computer is slow,it needs a sound card ,my question is which one,he has around £50 to spend ,does it have to have memory on the sound card,or would it be the same with no memory ,ie would the frame rates drop down a lot if the sound card has no memory, thanks for any suggestions and reading my post ,regards luke white
