Bluetooth Data Transmission

Postby DataRetreival on Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:36 am

Good day,

I am needing some help with some circuit work. I am not an electronics technician, nor am I a programmer, hence the reason i am not able to do this on my own.

instructions/schematics and detailed parts list for a circuit to be adapted to an existing data entry device.

The circuit i want to build will be to relay data entered to a bluetooth device at a later time. The system currently operates under these conditions: The user enters their security details, and is either granted access or denied. The system saves the codes entered by those seeking admission but it is necessary to open the panel box and connect a data cable to the system in order to retrieve data. I would like it to store the data in memory and when the bluetooth connection is activated for it to automatically initiate a transfer of all stored data to the my laptop without my having to open the case and use the cords. I would also like to use the existing connector so that no circuit modification has to be made to the existing system. There is room for a device about the size of a small mobile phone inside the panel box. If anyone knows how I could build something like this, and how to program it i would appreciate it greatly.

Some form of payment could be arranged for the person who provides a successful design and programming to operate it.

Thank you

If the existing connection is through RS-232 serial port connection then this could be one idea to try:
There are plug-in module that provides Bluetooth connectivity to devices with an RS-232 port.
Basically you plug this kind of module to a device you want to communicate with. Then on
the laptop with bluetooth adapter you can see this module as a virtual serial port that you
can communicate (almost) like a normal serial port when you are so near to the device
that Bluetooth connection works.

Or use a pair of RS-232-Bluetooth adapters that make a pair. Connect one to device
and other to the PC. One product makes this kind of promises:

http://www.roalan.com/Bluetooth%20Wirel ... verter.htm
"The BT232 Bluetooth Serial RS232 Converter allows you to replace serial communication cables. Bluetooth is an industry standard wireless communications protocol that provides short range, up to 100 metres, communications without wires.
The BT232 supports Bluetooth Wireless Cordless communication between controllers/devices that have a RS232 serial port interface. The BT232 Bluetooth Wireless Cordless to RS232 Serial Port Converter Adapter communicates up to 100 metres/300 feet with up to 115.2Kps speed."

"Supplied as a matching pair of Serial RS232 to Bluetooth Wireless Cordless Converter Adapters they can be used with any Serial RS232 equipment to eliminate the cable. There is no need to install additional programs in your computer or communication devices to use the BT232 Bluetooth Wireless Cordless to RS232 Serial Port Converter Adapter. Connect the BT232 Bluetooth Wireless Cordless to RS232 Serial Port Converter Adaptor to a serial port at your computer or communication device and supply it with power. A Bluetooth Wireless Cordless connection between two devices is automatically established when both BT232s are powered on. Then you can easily access it as if you were using the existing serial port. More than one pair can be used in the same area."

Thank you very much for your reply. Would it be possible for this to be adapted to a different connection type? the cable end that attaches to the system appears to be the same (bear with me i'm not very technical) but the connection for the cord that attaches to my laptop is USB. I don't think my laptop has a connector like that. is there a USB adapter that would work with these devices?

You can use practically any normal RS-232 device through USB connection by using an USB-RS232 adater.

Something like that or similar

If your existing cable has 9 pin D connector on device and USB on computer end, it is very probable that the cable you have is indeed this kind of adapter.
