First lets debunk the arguments against jammers shall we?
Q: Aren't they illegal?
A: Isn't speeding? Isn't failing to signal a turn, or going through a late yellow light? Wearing a seatbelt? Yep, all illegal, and all kill people. And most all of us do these things sometimes don't we? Also illegal are gay relations in certain states, adultery, spanking children, and marijuana use by dying cancer patients. Point made.
Q: What about these things blocking emergency calls?
A: Bogus claim. Most have about a ten foot range, and are only going to serve to shut down the self-important blabbermouth who is rudely forcing himself into your personal space with his all too personal conversation. The jammers people are going to keep in their pocket or purse have a very limited range, and aren't going to shut down the city block. These claims are just scare tactics. They are made to take back peace and quiet in your personal space. As a side note there are ones that shut down city blocks, and our government uses them, to protect the president, and for other things. They don't exactly fit in your purse either. Real emergency workers use powerful two way radios that will not be affected. Doctors dealing with emergencies are in the emergency room. If someone needs emergency help he isn't going to be calling his doctor who is currently in the restaurant next to you and your jammer. He is going to call 911, or the emergency room, or the fire department.
Q: What about criminals using them?
A: Possible, but mostly a bogus argument for several reasons. First of all most of the time you are not going to be making phone calls while being attacked. You will do that (if you still can), after the criminal and his jammer are gone. Second, and more importantly, the question seems to ask whether or not jammers should exist, BUT THEY ALREADY DO EXIST. TOO LATE! They are out there and a google search can have one in your mailbox in under a week. If criminals want to buy them, they can, and will, and nothing is going to stop that, ever. The real question is, what about the rest of us?
Q: So what about it? Should people buy and use them?
A: I argue that there is a good use for them. I feel I have a right to NOT be forced to hear someone elses personal, often times annoying, and sometimes disgusting conversations forced upon me. Let me list the best places I think jammers can be used:
Best Uses:
1) Movie theaters - when people just "have to take this call" and ruin the movie
2) Restaurants - bring back the concept of "a quiet dinner"
3) Trains and buses - I pitty the poor souls forced to listen to multiple blabbermouths all at once in a confined space, after a long days work.
4) The grocery store line - we all have had to wait in line behind the guy who's call is just too important to hang up and pay the cashier - lets do everyone in line a favor and end that call that "just couldn't wait"
5) Classrooms - where most want to learn, but some want to talk or text message, disturbing the learning in the process. Where some use text messaging to cheat and send answers. Lets make classrooms a place to learn again
6) Churches - Where you AND MORE IMPORTANTLY OTHERS, are supposed to be worshiping God, not rescheduling the dog grooming for fido
7) In traffic - You know the people, the ones that can't go forward or turn at green lights because they are just too busy talking. The ones that cut you off, and never even see you because of that "important call". The guy taligaiting you because he barely knows you are even there, due to his very important call.
People did just fine without the cursed cell phone for a very long time, and we still can.
Since some people refuse to be courteous, I say we help them out. Just click that jammer button, and make them SHUT THE CELL UP!
