Elexi 44198-2 antenna cable splitter

Postby User on Mon Nov 28, 2005 11:57 am

Product type: Elexi 44198-2 ANTENNIRASIAN HAAROITUSPISTOKE
Product type: claims to be antenna splitter
Price: few euros

Comments:

Piece of sh*t. Claims to be antenna splitter to split one antenna signal to two output. Instead of is a switch that switches one signal to either of outputs.

Poor mechanical construction. Inadequate shielding of RF signals, potential source of RF interference when connected to common antenna network or cable TV (most propably will not meet European antenna component shielding specifications for antenna systems).
Poor switch with long wires from connectors to it, the results is poor RF performance on high frequencies...

Bad product. Do not buy.

Elexi antenna cable splitters

Postby Tomi Engdahl on Mon Nov 28, 2005 12:17 pm

I have not personally used this particualr model, but I have used similar looking simpler splitters sold by ELEXI as well.. this model looked pretty much like the one above, but without switch. That product was one of those:

44198 Antennipistorasia haaroitin, 1xU/2xN
44198-1 Antennipistorasia haaroitin, 1xN/2xU
44198-2 Antennipistorasia haaroitin 1xU/2xN
kytkimellä

Mechanical construction of it was poor in it also. Broke easily.
The shielding as as bad as in this. Inside the box there was two resistors trying to do some kind of impedance matching, but not very good. The isolation between outputs was not good either (loads connected to one outlet can severely interfere signal on other output).
I can say that this was pretty bad product. Cost was several auros.
I don't recommend. Stay away. Don't waste your money in this.

Other products tried:
44199 Antennipistorasian haaroituspistoke
1xIEC-pistoke/2xIEC-jatko.
44199-2 Haaroituspistoke 2xIEC-pist. / 1xIEC-jatko

Those are T-shaped antenna splitters with IEC antenna connectors. Case is white plastic. When I tried them, they performed poortly, bith impedance matching and there was practically isolation between outputs.
I opened one. The product looked inside just like there were just those antenna connectors, and few thin wires connecting them toghether. No shielding, no matching components. No wonder that kind kidn of poorly constructed splitter does not work well.
Poor product. Cost few euros. I can't recommend to anybody. Stay away. Don't waste your money on this.

A proper antenna splitter prodides good impedance matching (matches 75 ohm input to two 75 ohm outputs) and prodives good isolation between outputs (noise from one output gets attenuated very much before getting to other, typically 20 dB attenuation or better).
There are many good and cheap antenna splitters that does this and even cost less than those "plastic toys" above. The good antenna splitters look like this:

This one is Biltema 24022 that costs 1.95 Euros. The similar looking product is also available with other breads printed on them. I have for example used ones with Jebree brands (cost around 1 euro in professional shops). All this kind od splitters in metal boxes have worked well.

Elexi antenna splitter

Postby Tomi Engdahl on Wed Feb 14, 2007 9:53 am

It seems that I am not the only one that has found out that those plastic antenna splitters are not good. Here is link to a web page that tells practically the same that those plastic antenna splitters by Elexi are not good:
http://www.sci.fi/~oh2bio/antennit/elexi.htm
The page has also information on the quality of Elexi brand SCART cable (not good wither according that page). The page is only available in Finnish language.
