VGA Output to a LCD TV

Postby zangeena on Wed Oct 07, 2009 6:44 am

How Can I Connect a Laptop with a VGA Output to a LCD TV with no VGA Input? I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 6000 and a Sharp 32" Aquos LCD TV. How do I connect the two? I've used S-Video and it works but the quality is terrible because S Video is using 680x480. The best I understand is VGA to VGA but in my case the LCD has no VGA input. Can I use a VGA to RGB Component Cable? Or VGA to DVI-I than DVI-I to HDMI? Can anyone help me?

What inputs does your TV have?

I've used S-Video and it works but the quality is terrible because S Video is using 680x480.

The S-video format always limits the resolution to standard normal definition TV system resolution (PAL or NTSC resolution).

The best I understand is VGA to VGA but in my case the LCD has no VGA input.

VGA to VGA input is generally best when you have VGA output on your laptop (no option for DVI or HDMI).
If your laptop has DVI or DHMI they can at least in theory give even better quality.

Can I use a VGA to RGB Component Cable? Or VGA to DVI-I than DVI-I to HDMI? Can anyone help me?

If your display have RGB input that supports computer resolutions, then VGA to RGB cables on option.
If your display has component video input that supports computer resolution a VGA to component adapter/cable would be an option.
There are also external converters that can convert VGA to HDMI.
