This is pretty good soldering station for the price I paid. The unit has tempearture control with potentiometer and LED bargraph display to tell the soldering iron temperature. The soldering iron itself works at low voltage (24V) and is powered though the transformer and the thermostat electronics on the base unit. The temparature control range is 160°C - 480°C.

The soldering iron itself is 24V 48W model SL-1. It is good to hold in hand and is nice to use. The overall feel is a slightly cheaper than the feel in more expensive irons (like Weller irons). The usage feel was pretty much the same as with my older Weller WTCP-S soldering iron, with the Velleman soldering iron giving slightly better hold because of the non-slipping rubber on the handle of soldering iron where you hold it.
The tip that comes with the set is OK general purpose soldering tip that is expected to last long.

I can say that this is a good soldering station for the price. Overall good.

The only potential downside of bying this kind of not the most widely used brand is how to find replacmenet tips when you need other tip forms or new tip when one wears out. Usually finding replacement it is hard after some time. Fortunately with this soldering iron there are several sources to get tips. Fortunately other company Biltema http://www.biltema.fi/ sells also soldering stations based on exactly same oldering iron unit, just slightly different base units http://www.biltema.fi/osteri/osteri.cgi ... uote=19726

The tips for those match well with my Velleman VT-SS20, because the actual sodering iron is the same in both of the products. They are available as spare parts from Biltema
