Linux is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Video and festival competitions can be found on Linux Foundation celebrating 20 years of Linux pages.
The History of Linux began in 1991 with the commencement of a personal project by a Finnish student, Linus Torvalds, to create a new operating system kernel. Ari Lemmke named the project “Linux” and uploaded it to FTP server.
I use Linux every day and know personally some of the people who started it.

Highlights from the timeline show how much has been achieved:
* 1991: Linus Torvalds posts message: “Hello everyone out there,” and releases first Linix code.
* 1993: Black Whale introduces first stand alone distribution.
* 1994: Linus visits an aquarium, gets bit by a penguin and adopts the animal as the Linux mascot.
* 1999: Red Hat goes pubic.
* 2003: Torvalds appears on the cover of Business Week in story that says Linux is a business success.
* 2007: Linux Foundation is formed to promote projects and standardize Linux.
* 2010: Linux-based Android operating system becomes a huge success.
* 2011: Linux turns 20 and powers the world’s businesses, stock exchanges and supercomputers.

The Linux kernel had just been released by Torvalds in October 1991. The Usenet discussion group debate would branch to 73 posts as speculation spread beyond operating systems to future computing designs and MPU architecture.
Tanenbaum was first to strike, posting that the Linux kernel had a monolithic design that he believed was detrimental to its abilities. A base of his argument was that the Linux kernel was too closely tied to the x86 line of processors to be of any use in the future, as he believed x86 architecture would be superseded in coming computing designs. He mentioned how writing a monolithic kernel in 1991 is “a giant step back into the 1970s.”
Tanenbaum would later argue that Linux would become obsolete because the x86 architecture would be outdone by other architecture designs in the future.
Since the 1992 debate, Linux has been ported to many other processor architectures, including ARM, AVR32, Alpha, IA-64, 680×0, MIPS, POWER/PowerPC, and SPARC.

Setting up your own blog can be very easy to very complicated depending on your needs, selected platform and system you plan to run it.
Setting up a blog in some blog hosting service is very easy. I started first at http://wordpress.com/ and later let someone set the system to my server.
