Many bonus cards to one mobile card

How many of those “Bonus Cards” you have to get discount on different stores? Probably too many to carry around in your wallet easily. Years ago I thought that it would be a good idea if it would be possible to combine them all then to a one card. After analyzing the problem I thought would there be business in that. I did some thinking on different technologies that could make this to work.. With barcodes combining them to one card would be quite easy if the companies would accept not normal looking cards. With magnetic stripe cards thing get somewhat more complicated but maybe doable. With smartcard technologies combining would be a good idea but not many bonus cards use smart card technology. I did not see at the moment that there would be any good business interest for the different bonus card companies to make to work together to get then all integrated to one single card.

So I dropped the idea for years. Some days ago I started thinking of the same idea again. Maybe world would start to get ready to do something like this with mobile phone applications. Nearly everyone carries their smartphone almost all the time, so it would be nice to have those bonus cards in that instead of having a set of card in wallet.

Then just yesterday I read that a Finnish company has already done that. Tietoviikko web article Liika bonuskortteja lompakossa? Suomalaisyritys kehitti ratkaisun (check English translation if you can’t read Finnish). A Finnish company Sunduka has developed a solution to combine very many bonus cards do a mobile application (more than 50 Finnish cards at the moment). Their product is called Mobiilikortti. It is a free application that works on Android, iOS and Windows Phone. Now the Mobiilikortti mainly works with barcode and qr codes, but there are plans to add NFC support. Mobiilikortti application also seeks to give companies the channel through which they can convey information about its customers and offers.

Interesting idea. Looks interesting on the paper, but I have not yet tested this in practice.

Why did I not invent this idea earlier and done something about it to make the idea fly..
