One key was damaged on my ACER 5552G laptop keyboard. The S key was literally falling apart every now and them (was damaged by too kid trying to pull the key out). Sending the laptop to repair center felt something that could cost quite a bit of money (usually this kind of problems are repairs by replacing the whole keyboard which easily costs 50 euros in parts). There has to be a cheaper DIY option.
After some Google searching I found that you don’t have to replace your whole keyboard because you have a broken or missing key. Laptopkey.com is a web site that that sells single replacement keys for laptops at reasonable prices ($5 is reasonable considering this is a special repair part). The product they sell is a complete key kit: the key cap, cup, retainer clips, and an installation guide.
Finding the exact right key for my laptop took a little bit work. The website easily located my computer, but noted that this specific model was sold with several a little bit different keyboard variations that look outside practically the same. I had to look at the parts underneath the key cap and compare them to pictures on the web site.
They had suitable key for my laptop and even installation instructions with video.
The key was sent in a small envelope. The package had the key cap, cup, retainer clips. The link to instructions was on the order confirmation e-mail. The key looked to be in good condition, but did not seem to be brand new (looked like a little bit used and was a little bit dirty underneath).
So I had everything needed to start to fix the keyboard. It was only several minutes of work to figure out exactly how to install the new key (less time than figuring out what key model to get). I am happy with the results, because I got the keyboard fixed with just few dollars and quite a little amount of work.
I recommend you to check this option if you have problems on one or few keys on your laptop. You can buy your keys from Laptopkey.com or other similar web sites.
