Friday Fun: Air-Powered Lego Hot Rod

I have earlier shown some amazing Lego building projects on this blog, but this one is over the top: An Australian entrepreneur and Romanian tinkerer have built an air-powered full-size car out of LEGO. The car has homepage at www.superawesomemicroproject.com. Here is a video of that Life Size Lego Car Powered by Air.

It is a full sized Lego car, with an engine made from Lego that runs on air. The engine has four orbital engines and a total of 256 pistons and is capable of top speed around 20-30km. It is a functional car built from more than 500,000 LEGO pieces.

The effort looks to be a mixture of joyful tinkering and stunt. One Tweet Funded This Full-Size, Air-Powered Lego Hot Rod article tells that we can thank the Internet for bringing the project creators Steve Sammartino and Raul Oaida together. Though they had an idea, they didn’t have much cash, so Sammartino fired off a tweet seeking $500 to $1,000 for an unexplained project. Lifesize, driveable AIR-POWERED LEGO CAR hits the road article tells that the car was built with funds contributed by 40 “patrons” who each stumped up an undisclosed amount to summon it into existence (it was estimated that it will cost around $25 000).
