Richard Stallman to speak in Finland

Richard Stallman, the father of open source software movement, is going to give two speeches in Finland in February. If you are into open source software, then it might be a good idea to check if you can listen to those talks. Dr. Richard Stallman launched the free software movement in 1983 and started the development of the GNU operating system in 1984.

Richard Stallman is known for his campaigns for software to be distributed in a manner, such that a user receiving it, likewise receives with it the freedoms to use, study, distribute and modify that software: software that ensures these freedoms (on receipt) is termed free software. He is best known for launching the GNU Project, founding the Free Software Foundation, developing the GNU Compiler Collection and GNU Emacs, and writing the GNU General Public License.

Richard Stallman to speak at Aalto on “A Free Digital Society” on February 10th, 14.00 – 16.00 at Aalto Design Factory, The Stage (Betonimiehenkuja 5 C, 02150 Espoo, Finland). The event is free and there is an optional sign-up.

Happy Hacking Day is a an interesting looking hacking event in Helsinki Finland is held on 11th February 2014 9:30 – 20:00 at HAAGA-HELIA‘s Pasila Campus (Ratapihantie 13 Helsinki).  The Internet Hall of Fame hero Dr. Richard Stallman is one guest speaker.

    I think the key difference between Linus and Stallman is that one is fighting for a positive cause (Linus) while the other is fighting against a negative cause (Stallman).

    And I think this difference in motive is why Stallman usually ends up in hot water
