Here are some interesting videos related to PA and sound reinforcement systems. Wikipedia defines that a public address system (PA system) is an electronic system comprising microphones, amplifiers, loudspeakers, and related equipment. It increases the apparent volume (loudness) of a human voice, musical instrument, or other acoustic sound source or recorded sound or music. The term, sound reinforcement system generally means a PA system specifically for live music or performance. A sound reinforcement system for a rock concert or other large event in a stadium may be very complex.

“learnings”:
- Over-Under for small cables. Over-Over for AC. Arm Wrap for SDI because everyone hates video.
- If you ain’t redlining, you ain’t headlining.
- If you’re using blue cables, stop it, use black, because red cables are better than the green ones because no one wants to see orange cables on an orange cable gig.
- Duct tape, always.
- If you have less than 300 years of experience in the field, GTFO.
- Perfection is demanded, even if you only have 15 minutes and a questionable budget to work with.
- Who cares about the show when you’re using the wrong gear?!
- YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG. YOU’RE ALWAYS DOING IT WRONG.

Inside Meyer Sound Lab’s New Flagship PANTHER Line Array
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxQwumADjSE
A brief tour of Meyer Sound’s new flagship PANTHER line arrays. Shipping in February, 2022, Panther combines two long-excursion 12” woofers and 3” compression drivers with four channels of onboard Class-D powering fed from a dual (analog/Milan AVB network) input module. Designed for large-scale touring and installs, three models offer different horizontal dispersion: the 95° PANTHER-M; 110° PANTHER-W; and 80° long-throw PANTHER-L. PANTHER produces nearly the same power and headroom as LEO in the footprint of LYON, yet weighs just 150 pounds and are capable of max 150dB SPLs. All have IP55 weather protection-rated enclosures and integrate with Meyer Sound’s existing 900-LFC and 1100-LFC subwoofers. A range of flown rigging, ground-stack and transport options are available.

Perfect Column Array Speaker – Open Letter to Bose, JBL, RCF, QSC, LD, EV
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lPAioFgzSk
Every speaker marketed to a DJ should feel like it’s FOR DJ’s BY DJ’s! Period! The column arrays that are out on the market all feel like a missed opportunity in one way or another. There is no current column array style speaker that does it all, so the crown it’s up for grabs for whichever company is bold enough to make a feature packed speaker and take it.
I made a list of the nicest features I like from the column arrays that are currently out on the market as well as what I feel DJ’s would like included in a column array. I really want this to become a reality, so I’m going to send this video to all the big companies QSC, JBL, Bose, to try and get the conversation going and we’ll see who’s up to the challenge.
1.Portability
Must be lightweight and portable.
Need to be able to be put together and taken apart quickly and easily.
Have compartments that can pack into each other like the RCF EVOX 12 or JBL EON series.
It would be nice to have a carry handle on top like Bose for better distribution of the weight.
2.Durability:
Fix the sway issues already
Have magnetic locking connections which will provide feedback of a solid connection.
Speaker grills and handles should be all metal.
Includes the cases. If you’re paying over $1800 for a speaker, then padded slip cases should be included especially for the columns as there’s no way to keep those protected.
3. Power Ratings
DJ’s are looking for a column array that has nothing less than 2K watts rms and/or max spl 130 db.
Have solid and quality bass. Wooden cabinets sound better, but they’re heavy.
We’re in the age of plastic cabinets, but they don’t sound terrible and they’re getting better and better as technology advances.
Bass Profile – Tight and punchy or loud and boomy. As long as it’s not muddy it works. With a column array you can get away with cheating bass a little bit.
4. Innovation and Feature packed
Bigger drivers give the presence of more middle frequency.
At minimum 12-16 drivers. We don’t do any less unless it’s a 2nd smaller model in the line up.
The 45 degree angled drives to get 180 degree dispersion like Bose. This is really nice. I love this as it minimizes the absolute need for a studio monitor.
Bluetooth is a must have. At this juncture if you’re selling a column array speaker that doesn’t have Bluetooth then you’re falling behind the competition.
The speaker connections should be the XLR/TRS combo jacks. This is a bad place to skimp out basic needs. It gives the impression that a company shaved in other important areas as well.
You want your column array to be the unicorn and most desired speaker then Have a connector where you can slide a battery onto the back of the speaker to make it field swappable like the Ego Nexus generator.
If you can fit more than one battery side by side to double the battery life and make it hot swappable with pass-through charging you’ll take a big share of the market. TAKE MY MONEY!
Have a mixer built in with a minimum 5 channels to 7 channels.

The JBL VRX system seems to be a very ‘Marmite’ PA – some people (like me) really like them and others simply find them unacceptable. This video attempts to explain why I like the system and how it functions in practice. It is a sort of ‘non-line array’ video. At the end, there is a section showing how the cabinets are assembled and how they fit the theatre – a 1400 seater, with very low ceilings where other systems can be troublesome.

Worship and Praise Pedalboard for $250
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CdDBvLAtLA
My goal was to build a cheap (I know that’s relative) pedalboard with an amp and cab impulse response that is ade for drop and play while also spending less than what it would cost me to buy a new product that does everything all in one.
I found all of these products in one day and spent the evening building this new rig. I wanted to buy quality gear that I could count on without forking over a ton of money, and all in all, I think I did a great job buying smart and buying used to get this result.
My goal for $250 for all the pedals, and I ended up going to 350 ish so I could have an actual pedalboard, with a gig bag, nicer patch cables, etc. …you know… all the nice accessories.
I made sure not to process my guitar signal when I recorded, although what you hear from the live mix might have been processed y the FOH engineer.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the content and my choice of pedals. If you have any recommendations on gear I should try feel free to let me know! maybe I’ll make a video on it!

Comb filtering is a phenomenon that happens when the same sound arrives at the listener’s ears (or a microphone) at different times with a very small delay between the signals.
This delay can be anywhere from one sample to several milliseconds, up to 15ms–20ms. (Once the delay passes 15ms–20ms, the ear perceives it as delay.)
