The CN0537 suite of products, from Analog Devices, offers developers a portfolio of solutions and services which can help users learn quickly and fast-track products to market. Customers can configure their kit based on their relative level of experience with smoke detection design.

This reference design plus related software is designed and tested to meet UL-217 8th edition and similar smoke/fire detection standards.

The hardware is compromised of the EVAL-CN0537-ARDZ reference design which is described the CN0537 circuit note and the supporting EVAL-ADICUP3029 microcontroller board. The Data (EVAL-CNO537-DATA) package provides an extensive smoke dataset taken at UL-217 certified facilities for those who wish to develop their own algorithm and the CN0537 source code – excluding the detection algorithm. The Algorithm (EVALCN0537-ALGO) package includes everything in the Data package and a UL certified smoke detection algorithm with associated algorithm project files.

ZDI’s KNX HAT Integrates Your Raspberry Pi, or Other SBC, Into a KNX/EIB Home Automation Network
    https://www.hackster.io/news/zdi-s-knx-hat-integrates-your-raspberry-pi-or-other-sbc-into-a-knx-eib-home-automation-network-4528dfd7a354

Compatible with a range of SBCs, the KNX HAT makes it easy to integrate a computer into a KNX/EIB home automation system.

French home automation specialist ZDI has launched an add-on board for the Raspberry Pi and compatible single-board computers designed for integration into a smart home system: the KNX HAT.

“Raspberry Pi Hat for KNX/EIB, the standardized protocol for smart home automation,” the company explains of its launch. “It allows your Raspberry Pi to connect to your home and operate it with your favourite KNX ready home automation software (Home Assistant, Jeedom…). It can also be used to program your participants with ETS [Engineering Tool Software].”

The board includes an isolated KNX/EIB TP-UART interface and a 12-24V 2A DC-DC step-down power supply input, which can be used in place of the Raspberry Pi’s own power input. There’s an on-board real-time clock (RTC) and 32kB of EEPROM storage, too. For Raspberry Pi 3 boards, though, the HAT requires that the on-board Bluetooth radio is disabled to free up a serial port.

The KNX HAT is now available for $79 on ZDI’s Tindie store; a bus-coupler unit (BCI) is also available for $50.

New modular microcontroller boards aim to make development easy, but enter an increasingly fragmented ecosystem.

The world of microcontrollers on Next-Generation Form Factor (NGFF) M.2 circuit boards has grown larger with the launch of the SNAPZZ platform — but there are already concerns about fragmentation, and a desire to see One True Standard emerge.

Originally developed for peripheral devices on mainstream PCs, including wireless cards, modems, accelerators, and solid-state storage, the M.2 connector is being repurposed as the basis for a modular ecosystem of plug-in microcontroller modules. SparkFun was one of the first out of the gate with the MicroMod range, and now SNAPZZ looks to offer some competition.

32-bit RISC-V cores power these new low-cost IoT SoCs, which include Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy connectivity.

Bouffalo Lab has launched a pair of RISC-V system-on-chips (SoCs) designed for the Internet of Things, and in doing so is targeting the lower-cost end of the market — to the point where surprisingly high-specification parts should cost no more than Espressif ESP8266 modules.

According to details of the launch winkled out by CNX Software, Nanjing-based Bouffalo Lab has announced two key SoC designs: The BL602 and the BL604. Both include a 32-bit processor built around the free and open-source RISC-V instruction set architecture, running between 1MHz and 192MHz depending on requirement, and 277kB of static RAM (SRAM) on-chip.

TINY ETHERNET ROUTERS NOW AVAILABLE IN GIGABIT SPEEDS
    https://hackaday.com/2020/11/26/tiny-ethernet-routers-now-available-in-gigabit-speeds/

If you need to move a lot of data, and fast, Gigabit Ethernet is a great way to do it. However, most network hardware outside of datacenters is fairly space inefficient, a headache if you’re building a robot or drone. Enter the Gigablox, a super-compact Gigabit router for just these applications.

The design is the sequel to the SwitchBlox, and the later SwitchBlox Nano, both designed by [Josh Elijah] earlier this year. The pace of development is impressive, and it’s great to see [Josh] bring Gigabit speeds to the compact form factor.

The Smell iX16 chip can reportedly be baked into Internet of Things systems and smart home devices, alongside single-board computers such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi. It can sniff out gases including ammonia, nitrogen monoxide, phosphine, carbon dioxide, water vapor, ethanol, acetone, toluene, and isopropanol, along with odors such as chocolate, wine, vodka, tea and coffee, onions, bananas, meat, and fish.

In reality, of course, the Smell iX16 is going to be most useful in areas like food control, hazard prevention, and the health sector.
