Raspberry Pi Pico board

Interesting new micro-controller board and custom chip from Raspberry Pi: Raspberry Pi Pico.

Pico provides a single push button, which can be used to enter USB mass-storage mode at boot time and also as a general input, and a single LED. It exposes 26 of the 30 GPIO pins on RP2040, including three of the four analogue inputs, to 0.1”-pitch pads; you can solder headers to these pads or take advantage of their castellated edges to solder Pico directly to a carrier board.

It is programmable with Python and C/C++. Cross-platform toolchain for development on Windows, macOS, and Linux — including, naturally, the Raspberry Pi family itself Supports TensorFlow Lite.

Raspberry Pi is looking to do for the microcontroller market what they’ve already done for single-board computers with the launch of the Pico. The board — priced at just $4 — is based on the RP2040, a dual-core Cortex-M0+ processor designed in house. It designed to be easy to taken into use.

Announcement at Facebook says:

It’s been a big week. We launched something tiny, something new – Raspberry Pi Pico, just for you.

Adding a real-time clock and display to the Raspberry Pi Pico, this unusual clock keeps track of where each planet is in its orbit

Written in MicroPython, the program runs on the Raspberry Pi Pico’s RP2040 and displays its output in full colour on a Pimoroni Pico Display Pack. Rather than relying on the RP2040′s internal clock, it uses an external DS3231 real-time clock — which, once set, can be kept ticking using an optional coin-cell battery. The current date can be adjusted using the buttons on the face.

Selling for under $10, this board breaks out a lot of RP2040 features — behind a bright, full-color IPS LCD panel.

Internet of Things (IoT) specialist LILYGO has launched a new version of its compact T-Display development board — this time packing a Raspberry Pi RP2040 microcontroller underneath a 1.14″ color display.

LILYGO showed off the design of the T-Display RP2040, as the new board is named, back in July. Based on its earlier T-Display ESP32 design, the breadboard-friendly microcontroller kit features a USB Type-C connector for data and power, 2.54mm GPIO pins to both edges, and two user-addressable buttons

Its biggest feature, though only relatively speaking: A 1.14″ full-color IPS LCD display, offering a 240×135 resolution.

To the microcontroller’s on-board dual-core Arm Cortex-M0+ processing cores, eight programmable input/output (PIO) state machines, and 264kB of static RAM (SRAM) LILYGO has added 4MB of external SPI flash and a two-pin JST connector for an optional lithium-polymer battery.

The LILYGO T-Display RP2040 is now available on AliExpress at $9.98 with unsoldered male headers and a JST cable — a 20% saving over the usual retail price.

    https://etn.fi/index.php/13-news/12653-raspberry-pi-ohjainpiiri-taipui-teollisuusmoduuliksi

Moduuli on nimeltään Iono RP.

The M5Stack Color Maker Can Mix Paint To Match Your Subject
    https://hackaday.com/2021/10/11/the-m5stack-color-maker-can-mix-paint-to-match-your-subject/

We’ve all learned in primary school art classes that blue and yellow make green, and that adding a little black to a color will make it darker. But what if you want to paint with a color that exactly matches something else? Usually, that requires a lot of trial and error (and paint), and the end result may not look the way you wanted after all.

To help aspiring artists, [Airpocket] made the M5Stack Color Maker. This is a device that reads out a color sensor and automatically mixes watercolor paint in the right proportions to match what it sensed. It dispenses drops of cyan, magenta, yellow and black paint (CMYK) into a small bowl, from which you can then apply it with a paintbrush.

The color sensor is similar in use to the color picker (or “dropper”) tool present in most graphics programs: simply point it at something that has the right color, and it will generate the correct values for you. It is based on an AMS TCS34725 color sensor, which is housed in a 3D-printed shell that also includes a white LED. The sensor outputs Red, Green and Blue (RGB) values, which are converted into the corresponding CMYK values by a Raspberry Pi Pico. A touch-sensitive screen allows the user to make adjustments before activating the paint pumps.

With this device, you can copy the color of an object or create a new color with your imagination.

It doesn’t take many resources to manage a typical keyboard. All the microcontroller has to do is monitor the keyboard matrix and send keypress information to a computer or other device (usually over USB these days). Almost every microcontroller on the market today can handle the job; provided it has enough I/O pins or you implement shift registers. But at $4, the Raspberry Pi Pico costs less than most other microcontroller development boards on the market. Combine that with the built-in USB HID capabilities, and the Pico is a very solid choice for a controlling keyboards.

Open Control Is a Raspberry Pi RP2040-Powered Control Surface for Ableton Live — and More
    https://www.hackster.io/news/open-control-is-a-raspberry-pi-rp2040-powered-control-surface-for-ableton-live-and-more-50b292889631

With an open source firmware, this music maker’s box of tricks could be turned to a variety of tasks with a little tweaking.

Music producer Pierre-Antoine Grison has unveiled a customizable control surface designed with Ableton Live in mind but with the flexibility to be reprogrammed for other tasks, building on his earlier State Of The Loop project: Open Control, powered by a Raspberry Pi RP2040.

“As a successor to State Of The Loop, I wanted to create a controller with a brighter and clearer display, that could properly show Looper names, Scene names, Arrangement Markers names, and more,” Grison explains. “I also wanted that the user could decide how many foot pedals he could use. Sometimes 5 is too much, sometimes 2 is not enough.”

The finished design includes six on-board buttons, with support for optional foot pedals

The microcontroller, meanwhile, is the Raspberry Pi RP2040 — an increasingly popular choice thanks to a low $1 per-chip price and ready availability in a time of ongoing component shortages.

“So I decided to let the user decide what’s best for him as easily as possible. Right now Open Control is optimized for Ableton Live, with its own Script and Editor. But being open source, it could evolve and encompass software like Logic, Bitwig, who knows?”

More details are available on the project’s Kickstarter campaign page, where physical rewards begin at €59 (around $68) for the Maker variant with delivery expected in February 2022.
