While there have been efforts by AMD over the years to make it easier to port codebases targeting NVIDIA’s CUDA API to run atop HIP/ROCm, it still requires work on the part of developers.
Over the past two years AMD has quietly been funding an effort though to bring binary compatibility so that many NVIDIA CUDA applications could run atop the AMD ROCm stack at the library level — a drop-in replacement without the need to adapt source code. In practice for many real-world workloads, it’s a solution for end-users to run CUDA-enabled software without any developer intervention.
The x86-simd-sort 5.0 release introduces a new API to sort custom-defined C++ objects via object_qsort. This new sort support of custom C++ objects can be 4~5x faster than using std::sort on AVX-512 systems but ultimately the performance impact will vary based upon the custom class.

While Microsoft doesn’t disclose revenue figures for its Azure cloud infrastructure, analyst figures suggest that five years ago it was half as big as AWS. Now, it’s about three-quarters the size of its top rival, analysts estimate.
In total, revenue at Azure increased 30% in the quarter, compared with 13% year-over-year growth at AWS.
Microsoft has been adding graphics processing units (GPUs) to its data centers so that clients can run AI models in Azure. That includes GPT-4, a large language model that enables text conversations with OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot. Many businesses have been adding similar generative AI capabilities to their products.
“We now have 53,000 Azure AI customers,” CEO Satya Nadella told analysts on the company’s earnings call.
AWS took months to come out with a model that could go up against GPT-4. The company is now offering a number of models in addition to its own, including one from Anthropic, which Amazon backed. On the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that AWS offers “the most expansive collection of compute instances with Nvidia chips,” and that customers including Airbnb and Snap are using its homegrown AI processors.
As it stands now, Azure is growing much faster.
And as cloud infrastructure has become a bigger part of Microsoft, making up around 29% of the company’s total revenue, it’s also become a meaningful contributor of profit.

Nykyisille akkutekniikoille etsitään koko ajan tehokkaampaa ja turvallisempaa korvaajaa. Delftin teknillisen korkeakoulun tutkijat ovat yhdessä Kiinan tiedeakatemian kanssa saattaneet löytää tähän asti parhaan akkuratkaisun.
Tutkijat ovat kehittäneet natriumioniakkuteknologiaa kehittämällä pikalatausominaisuuksia ja parantamalla negatiivista elektrodia orgaanisilla materiaaleilla, mikä vähentää riippuvuutta harvinaisista materiaaleista. Lisäksi he ovat parantaneet katodia ja luoneet korkean energiantiheyden nopeasti latautuvan materiaalin, jossa ei ole kobolttia. Tämä materiaali kestää nykyisiä pidempään, koska sen rakenne muuttuu asteittain käytön aikana.
